Private chef FAQ
Questions about booking a private chef in the Algarve: prices, guests, travel, allergies and how a booking works.
How much does a private chef cost?
Every experience is quoted individually. The price depends on the number of guests, the location, the menu and the style of service. Send me your date and a few details, and I will send you a menu proposal with a clear quote.
How many guests can you cook for?
From two guests up to twenty.
What is included?
A menu written for your occasion, menu planning, shopping and sourcing, ingredients unless we agree otherwise, preparation, cooking and finishing on site, dietary requirements taken into account, plated, sharing or buffet service as agreed, my own tableware where suitable, assistants when the booking needs them, and your kitchen left clean and organised.
Do you charge for travel?
Yes. Travel is calculated for each booking, depending on the distance to your home or villa.
Are drinks included?
Juice, water, tea and coffee are included with brunch. For other services, drinks are normally arranged by you. If you would like me to organise them, I can add them to the proposal.
Do you bring plates, glasses and serving pieces?
I normally bring and work with my own tableware and service pieces, because I know them well and they help me keep the presentation of my work. Your own tableware can be used when it suits the menu. Any rentals are agreed in advance.
What do you need from my kitchen?
A clean, working kitchen with electricity, water, a fridge and the main cooking equipment for the agreed menu. For a home I do not know yet, I may ask for a few photos of the kitchen or a short visit in advance. Important limitations should be known before the booking is confirmed.
Can you cook for allergies and special diets?
Yes. I always ask about dietary restrictions, intolerances and allergies, and please tell me clearly in advance. Menus can be adapted for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other needs. Where a serious allergy is involved, I discuss the kitchen conditions and the risk of cross-contact with you before confirming what can safely be served.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as possible, especially in high season and for larger groups. Last-minute requests can sometimes be accepted, depending on availability.
How do I secure the date?
Once you are happy with the menu and the quote, a 50% deposit secures the booking. The balance is paid before the service.
What if I need to cancel, or the number of guests changes?
If your plans change, please let me know as early as possible. Whether the 50% deposit is refunded depends on when you cancel, and a cancellation fee may be retained. The exact terms are set out in your quote. Date changes depend on availability. The final number of guests is confirmed 7 days before the service. Later increases depend on availability and may cost extra. If the number goes down after the final confirmation, the agreed price stays the same.
Do you cook over several days during a holiday?
Yes. Multi-day stays are planned as a tailored package and can include breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner, also lunch and dinner on the same day. The quote depends on the number of days, meals and guests.
Where do you cook?
Across the Algarve, including Lagos, Portimão, Ferragudo, Carvoeiro, Lagoa, Albufeira, Vilamoura, Quarteira, Almancil, Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago, Loulé, Faro and Tavira. On request I also cook anywhere else in Portugal, including Lisbon.
Can you cook on a yacht?
Yes, for selected bookings. Cooking on board is planned carefully around the smaller kitchen, the storage and the service conditions.
Do you teach cooking classes?
No. I cook for you and your guests, so that you can enjoy the evening.
